TEMPLARS has advised ENGIE, a global independent power producer, on the divestment of its Africa-focused renewable energy business, ENGIE Energy Access, which operates across over a dozen African countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia.

The acquiring company, Ignite Power Limited, is a climate-technology platform that specializes in developing, deploying, and operating distributed renewable energy infrastructure solutions across emerging markets.

This acquisition, which has received regulatory approvals, establishes a strong renewable energy enterprise on the continent and greatly enhances Ignite’s footprint in Sub-Saharan Africa, positioning it as the largest off-grid energy provider in Africa, now catering to over 15 million individuals across 12 African nations.

TEMPLARS provided layered advisory services throughout the transaction, including undertaking legal due diligence, documentation support, obtaining the required regulatory approvals, and offering legal and transaction structuring support to ENGIE.

The TEMPLARS team that advised on the transaction was led by Finance and Energy & Natural Resources Partner, Desmond Ogba. Desmond was supported by Senior Associates, Ayodele Ashiata Kadiri and Temple Ezebuike, as well as Associates, Susan Omeh and Joshua Chizoma.
