TEMPLARS advised a consortium of international music industry stakeholders including international popstar, Bad Bunny, Apple Music, Spotify USA Inc and others in connection with a US$100 million cross-border copyright dispute involving emPawa Africa.
The matter, at the intersection of global music distribution and publishing rights of African creative works within the global music ecosystem, arose from allegations of unauthorized use and/or insufficient attribution of certain musical works.
TEMPLARS provided strategic advice and support on key issues arising from the dispute, underscoring TEMPLARS’ continued involvement in complex, high-stakes disputes driven by global streaming, digital content monetisation, and the rapid internationalisation of African music.
