In 2019, the Nigerian Government, through the Rural electrification agency, developed a model to determine the most cost-effective strategy to achieving 100% electrification in the country. While laudable, the model was largely criticized for failing to account for clean cooking in its design in line with the Government’s COP26 aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. Consequently, the model has since been updated to reflect this development, leading to the establishment of the integrated energy planning tool.

The “Integrated Energy Planning Tool” (IEPT) is an interactive platform which provides intelligence to public and private sector stakeholders to deliver the most cost-effective solution for clean cooking and lighting up Nigeria.
