On 29 April 2025, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) issued a public notice restating the legal prohibition against operating under unregistered business names or acronyms. While the directive does not introduce new obligations, it reinforces existing provisions under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and imposes a strict 6-week compliance window.

The move signals the CAC’s intent to strengthen corporate transparency, protect the public from fraudulent entities, and enhance traceability within Nigeria’s business landscape.

In view of this, affected businesses are advised to urgently review their operational practices including naming conventions and digital disclosures, to ensure alignment with their registered status.
