Oghogho Akpata was recently a panelist at the SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA REGIONAL LAWYERS INDABA of the International Finance Corporation held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 9th – 10th February 2017.

Mr. Akpata’s panel addressed transaction bottlenecks and other challenges occasioned by recent changes in law and regulatory practices, and their impact on the IFC’s activities in a number of jurisdictions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The panel’s discussions centred on examples from Nigeria, Kenya and Mozambique and went on to explore possible solutions to the various challenges.

Speaking specifically in relation to Nigeria, Mr. Akpata touched on, among other things, the severe impact which the recent exchange control regulations introduced by the Nigerian Central bank has had on financing and the wider economy.

The IFC SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA REGIONAL LAWYERS INDABA is a periodic conference that brings together officials of the IFC and their various external counsel from jurisdictions across Sub-Saharan Africa.
