Pursuant to its powers under the Financial Reporting Council Act, the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria released a National Code of Corporate Governance 2016 (the “Code”) effective from the 17th of October 2016. The Code aims to consolidate corporate governance requirements of various sectors and establish a codified corporate governance regime in Nigeria. The Code is divided into three parts; the Code of Corporate Governance for the Private Sector; the Code of Governance for Not-for-Profit entities; and the Code of Governance for the Public Sector. We have prepared a Client Alert Newsletter (focusing on the Code of Corporate Governance for the Private Sector) summarizing the Code and highlighting some of its salient provisions.
