Templars is pleased to announce the admission of Igonikon H. Whyte to the Firm’s Partnership effective 1 January, 2016.

A seasoned litigator and arbitration counsel, Igonikon has been with Templars since 2008. She has acted as counsel on some of the largest domestic and international commercial arbitrations to have come out of Nigeria in the last seven years. She was part of the team that advised the Mobil-led Erha Contractor Group in a crude oil entitlement dispute resulting in a successful US$2 billion-plus arbitration against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

She is widely regarded as an expert in the areas of corporate internal investigations, taxation (including petroleum profits and companies income tax), and the fiscal and contracting regime for hydrocarbon exploration and production in Nigeria. In addition to advising extensively in the oil and gas industry, her sectoral experience includes significant work in the telecommunications, power, aviation and banking industries.

According to Managing Partner, Oghogho Akpata, “Igonikon is a standout lawyer, a tenacious advocate and an absolute pleasure to work with.”
