TEMPLARS, WARIF celebrate the 16 days of activism against Gender-based violence

TEMPLARS, Women At Risk International Foundation (WARIF) celebrate the 16 days of activism against Gender-based violence (GBV) with Expert Witness Training Sessions.

To commemorate the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, TEMPLARS conducted a training session for the Medical Unit of the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) on their role in the legal judiciary system as expert witnesses.

The objective of the visit was to enlighten the medical personnel at the organisation on the rules guiding proceedings, relevant criminal law and the importance of evidence when prosecuting the offence of rape or sexual assault.

WARIF is a non-profit organization that addresses the prevalence of rape, sexual violence and human trafficking through impactful initiatives in health, education and community service; and with a partnership spanning 5 years, TEMPLARS, which has been actively supporting the anti-sexual violence organization with legal advisory, has now taken it a step further with the facilitation of knowledge sharing sessions to equip the team with basic legal information which will assist in the execution of the services being provided.

“We are not restricting our fight for justice to the courts but creating more awareness through various means of enlightenment. We are glad to support WARIF in breaking the culture of silence around sexual violence, which has led to many deaths and truncated dreams. The WARIF team is doing a fantastic job” said Jacob Obi, Senior Associate at TEMPLARS

Speaking on the partnership, Senior Associate Sesan Sulaiman stated, “We are privileged to contribute to this worthy cause and hope to render more support to WARIF in the fight against rape and sexual violence. We commend the team for all they do to put an end to this menace.”
