Templars has endowed a scholarship programme for outstanding students of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) School of Music in Lagos.
The scholarship programme which is aimed at promoting the advancement of Music and the Arts was established in collaboration with the Marion Akpata Foundation.
The programme will grant an annual scholarship to the most promising graduate of the MUSON School of Music for the year preceding the award year. The shortlisted candidates will be screened by Templars and the Marion Akpata Foundation, and the awardee will be selected based on their academic and other accomplishments.
The first recipient of the award was selected in 2012 and is currently undertaking a 2-year programme in Music at the University of Cape Town.
According to senior partner Adewale Atake
, “In deciding to add the promotion of Music education to our list of causes for our corporate social responsibility initiative, we were determined to draw attention to an area of charitable giving and creativity that has not attracted the level of attention that we believe it deserves from philanthropists and corporate bodies in our local community.”
He added that “Templars is proud to be undertaking this initiative alongside the Marion Akpata Foundation,” which was established in honour of Mrs. Marion Akpata, a former director of the MUSON School of Music, in recognition of her services to Music and the Arts in Nigeria.
