In a long-standing legal battle, Oracle sued Google for copying its Application Programming Interface (API) code to create the Android mobile OS.

The United States Supreme Court recently decided that despite Google admitting it copied several thousand lines of Oracle’s API, Google did not breach Oracle’s copyright on the grounds that the use of the codes qualified as fair use.

This article analyses the Supreme Court’s decision and the possible implications for the Nigerian Tech Ecosystem.
